What is an IFSC Code?

The Indian Financial System Code (IFSC) is an 11-character alphanumeric identifier assigned by the RBI. The first 4 characters identify the bank, the 5th character is '0' (reserved), and the last 6 characters represent the specific branch.

IFSC vs MICR: What is the Difference?

IFSC is used exclusively for electronic fund transfers (NEFT, RTGS, IMPS, UPI). In contrast, MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) is a 9-digit numerical code printed at the bottom of cheque leaves for CTS-2010 cheque clearing.
