Editorial Integrity & Sourcing

Data Sourcing & Verification Methodology

India IFSC & Bank Directory provides a structured, searchable reference portal of Indian Financial System Codes (IFSC), Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) codes, and bank branch details. This document explains our data origins, verification procedures, update frequency, and community correction policies.

1. Primary Data Sources & Origins

Our branch database is compiled from authorized, publicly accessible banking registers in India:

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Public Registers: Official master clearing directory spreadsheets and circulars released by the Reserve Bank of India governing RTGS, NEFT, and clearing sub-members.
  • National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI): Clearing code guidelines, UPI participant bank identifier lists, and IMPS routing circulars.
  • Official Bank Disclosures: Public branch directories published on the websites of scheduled commercial, private, and regional rural banks.

2. Verification & Integrity Checks

Before records are published or updated, data undergoes automated mathematical and schema checks:

Format & Length Validation: Every IFSC must strictly conform to 11 alphanumeric characters matching the regular expression ^[A-Z]{4}0[A-Z0-9]{6}$.
Control Zero Verification: Confirms the 5th character is strictly the numeral 0, reserved for central clearing control.
Bank Prefix Matching: Verifies that the 4-letter bank identifier matches an authorized scheduled or cooperative banking institution registered with the RBI.
Missing Data Disclosure: When supplementary attributes like MICR or PIN codes are not recorded in official source registries, they are clearly marked as "Not available" rather than fabricated.

3. What "Verified" Means on India IFSC & Bank Directory

When a record displays "IFSC format valid" or "Source: RBI Public Register", it indicates:

  1. The 11-digit code adheres strictly to standard RBI syntax and checksum rules.
  2. The record exists in our synchronized snapshot of public banking register data.
  3. The branch mapping has undergone automated format verification.
Note: Because Indian banks periodically merge branches, alter administrative operating hours, or change phone lines, users are advised to verify sensitive beneficiary account details directly with their financial institution prior to large transfers.

4. Error Reporting & Correction Policy

We actively invite bank staff, depositors, and financial users to help maintain data accuracy. If you identify an outdated address, disconnected telephone number, or merged branch IFSC:

  • Click the "Report Error" button available on every individual branch page.
  • Submit the specific correction along with supporting documentation or official bank notices.
  • Our editorial review team verifies the report against the latest public gazettes before updating the database.
